Title: OMG!!!
Post by: lfmusiclover on November 27, 2008, 02:26:02 PM
I've just found on YouTube a video of Baltimore County's WxStar 4000 form 1994! I've been dying to see some videos of our 4000! It's a shame that the flavor in this video is a crappy one that doesn't show me very much.

Anyway, here's the video:

Anyone know what song that is? It sounds like Barcelona by Ottmar Liebert..only I didn't realize that song aired in 1994....

Yes!! He posted two more!

I know the song in the first one is Foundwind by Shadowfax, but does anyone know the second one? Sounds like Artie Traum...

Anyway, this is the first time in years that I've seen the CC screen, regional obs, or latest obs for my area's 4000 in years! I'm actually very surprised at how closely I was able to remember everything for the emulator. The only thing I noticed is that his CC location is Baltimore, and I know for a FACT that mine was Martin Airport. He lives in Baltimore County too, but maybe he lives in a different area than I do or something... :dunno:

At that time, was Comcast a relatively small company? I guess it covered only some of the Northeast, such as Philadelphia, Boston, DC, and Baltimore.

It was a little smaller, though it did cover most of the East Coast, not just the cities you mention.

I apologize for the bumping of this topic  , but I wanted to reply to this previous posting  ;)

Anyway, I would imagine Comcast was smaller back then, but Comcast was founded in 1963, so it has been around for a while.

Back in the 4000 days, we had at least two cable providers. I know one was AT&T (whose headends were bought out by Comcast in 2001), and I think the other was a company called MediaOne.

That's "In The Shadow Of The Past" by Steve Smith.

Sorry to raise this thread from the dead but I wanted to respond to this.  The star 4000 in question did indeed use Martin Airport as the primary location for several years.  I don't recall if Martin or Baltimore was the primary when this tape was made (Martin may have been unavailable causing it to fail over to Baltimore)
