Title: November 1992 Travel Cities Forecast
Post by: Nick on December 03, 2011, 01:32:09 PM
It's been established that the 4000's travel forecast changed from the original text version to the icon version on November 21, 1992. I had a recollection that it changed back to the text version for a short time after that date and yesterday ran across footage that confirms it. When the icon version debuted, there was a problem with that segment not advancing to the next screen once it's time was up. My guess is they put the text version back up while fixing that issue. Also, New York is labeled "NY City" on the initial icon version, but later appears as "New York", probably when the text version was taken back out again.

Thanks for doing the research - great work!

Oh, those were the days, when The Weather Channel was a force to be respected.  :)

Interesting. No wonder I only vaguely remember New York being NY City.

That Travel Forecast used to get stuck and sit there for entire evenings.  Did the LF's revert to their old flavor lineups while the old text-based TCF was temporarily reinstated?

I think I found an answer to my own question.  The second screenshot was taken at :52 past the hour, almost certainly meaning a L Flavor (probably with Struttin' by bobby Lyle).  This would mean that the new flavor lineups were still in effect.  I would love to see that footage!

It was using the new flavors, but with the old text TCF. I think that's the only one and only a few seconds of the scroll was on there. The next TCF is on December 5th and the return of the icon version.

Wasn't it labeled as NY City on the regional maps for a short time too?

Yes. Much longer, but yes.
