Post by: TWCToday on March 10, 2010, 01:37:42 PM: Thought I would make a topic for the first tropical depression of the Atlantic this year.....well south Atlantic that is.

"Only the second time in our satellite history dating back to about 1963 or so. The first was hurricane "Catarina" in 2004 in the same area and same month actuallly struck land near Santa Catarina (hence the unofficial name) with 100 mph winds. Many homes were damagaged, only 2 known deaths as far as I remember.

That's interesting, I was wondering if any storms have ever formed this early in March before.

Post by: beanboy89 on March 10, 2010, 10:05:50 PM: This storm is happening in the peak of the southern hemisphere's "hurricane season." The waters down there are warmest February through April.

Post by: phw115wvwx on March 14, 2010, 03:31:31 AM: Although this update is a little old, I found out that Invest 90Q did become a tropical storm through satellite measurements. The Brazilian government gave it an unofficial name of Anita although there is no official name list for the South Atlantic.

Sorry. That probably moved north slowly and became Tropical Storm Alex.
