Honestly it looks to be a TD already imo.


SATELLITE IMAGERY INDICATES THAT SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED
WITH A VIGOROUS TROPICAL WAVE AND ASSOCIATED LOW PRESSURE ABOUT 400
MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS ARE GRADUALLY
BECOMING BETTER ORGANIZED.  IF CURRENT TRENDS CONTINUE...A TROPICAL
DEPRESSION COULD FORM DURING THE NEXT DAY OR TWO AS THIS SYSTEM
MOVES TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST AT 10 TO 15 MPH.  THERE IS A HIGH
CHANCE...70 PERCENT...OF THIS SYSTEM BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE
DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS.

It just became Tropical Depression #12 today.  Winds are at 35 mph, and it should intensify over the next several  days.  The track is much further north than usual, so I don't expect this system to pose any threat to the United States.

That system sure developed quickly after leaving the African coast. :blink:  Well, this season is not far away from reaching the normal climatology values, and we still have a couple months to go.

The NHC's track for Julia is kinda weird to me, it's most likely gonna go OTS, but at Day 5 it looks like it's moving west. :blink:

I believe the ridge is shifting but I haven't looked at the latest models. Latest NHC track has it re curving at the end to the north Atlantic anyway

Hurricane Julia has strengthened to winds of 85 mph.  As I look at the forecast track, I'm thinking that Julia is going to meet with Igor at some point as the two hurricanes will be getting rather close to one another.

Update as of 11 PM EDT:  Julia has intensified further to 105 mph winds.  It's now a Category 2 hurricane.

You're correct, Jesse.  There's no special pronunciation guide listed for Julia, so you simply say it the English way.

Actually, if it were pronounced in Spanish, in that case, the J would have an H sound.

Hurricane Julia was once a Category 4 hurricane with 135 mph winds, but it has gotten too close to the larger outflow circulation from Igor and is slowly weakening from all the shear.  Winds are down to 85 mph, and it'll eventually be absorbed into the larger circulation of Igor.
