HOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS HAVE DECREASED IN ASSOCIATION WITH A
BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE LOCATED OVER THE EAST-CENTRAL CARIBBEAN
SEA. HOWEVER...ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS APPEAR CONDUCIVE FOR
DEVELOPMENT OF THIS SYSTEM...AND A TROPICAL DEPRESSION COULD FORM
DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS AS IT MOVES WESTWARD INTO THE
CENTRAL AND WESTERN CARIBBEAN SEA.  THERE IS A HIGH CHANCE...60
PERCENT...OF THIS SYSTEM BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE
NEXT 48 HOURS.  REGARDLESS OF DEVELOPMENT...LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL
IS POSSIBLE IN THE NORTHERN LEEWARD ISLANDS...PUERTO RICO...THE
VIRGIN ISLANDS...AND HISPANIOLA DURING THE NEXT DAY OR SO.  THESE
RAINS COULD CAUSE LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODS AND MUD
SLIDES...ESPECIALLY IN MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN.

EXPECTED TO MOVE WESTWARD TO WEST-NORTHWESTWARD AT 10 TO 15 MPH
OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS...AND IT HAS SOME POTENTIAL FOR
DEVELOPMENT BEFORE IT MOVES INLAND OVER THE YUCATAN PENINSULA BY
WEDNESDAY EVENING.  THERE IS A MEDIUM CHANCE...40 PERCENT...OF THIS
SYSTEM BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS.
REGARDLESS OF DEVELOPMENT... LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL IS POSSIBLE
OVER PORTIONS OF HAITI... JAMAICA...CUBA...THE CAYMAN ISLANDS...AND
THE YUCATAN PENINSULA DURING THE NEXT DAY OR TWO.  THESE RAINS
COULD CAUSE LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODS AND MUD SLIDES...
ESPECIALLY IN AREAS OF MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN.

Finally, this system decided to get organized and intensify!  Tropical Storm Karl has winds of 45 mph as of the 11 PM EDT advisory.  It'll strike the Yucatan Peninsula tomorrow and emerge back over open water before hitting the Mexican coast by the weekend.

Sorry for the double post, but Karl is now a hurricane with winds of 75 mph.  Strengthening is likely before it hits the Mexican coast, and hurricane warnings have been issued.  We have three active hurricanes in the Atlantic now!

Karl with a "K" is a cool name. I didn't even know it was an official name, but it's awesome. Anyway, it doesn't look like either of these three storms will directly impact the U.S. However, I have a feeling there will be a few drownings at the beaches, because there's always going to be a person who doesn't pay attention to the warnings.

Hurricane Karl has become a Category 3 hurricane with winds of 120 mph.  This major hurricane is going to make landfall over Mexico in a few hours.  It may be a small storm in size, but I hope the people there are prepared.

Karl had weakened rapidly last night, and has already been downgraded to a remnant low over the mountains of Mexico as of 4AM this morning.
