Your Scariest Weather Experience
« on: July 12, 2011, 06:25:07 PM »
What is your scariest weather experience?? Mine would have to be when I watched a funnel cloud form over my house earlier this year.
You say tomato, I say bourbon and Coke.

EF-3 tornado rip through my town on February 5, 2008, missing my home by about a half of a mile.

I live in Southaven....very scary stuff! I saw the tornado.

I attached some photos of the damage, as well as a map showing where the pictures were taken and where my home was at the time.

I'd say, being close enough to lightning to see the fireball on the ground.

Homina, homina, homina....

I watched a lightning bolt strike my parent's old satellite dish when I was 6. That will forever stick with me.

The 2003 San Diego Cedar Fire. The sky was red and it was raining ash. It was creepier looking Hurricane Andrew.

Another time I was scared was when I was directly under a tornadic storm and not even knowing it. It happened to me twice- once on June 17, 2009, another time on April 11 of this year.

Mine hands down will always be the March 14-15 2008 tornado outbreak because I had a very eerie similar experience as Trevor. (I found out two days later once we got power it touched down as a EF1 right around our neighborhood playground before heading to Downtown Atlanta) That next day I saw golfball sized hail for the first time ever. I knew we were in line for more severe weather that day, it was so hot and humid you would have mistaken the weather for June not March.

My second scariest is Hurricane Ivan in September 2004, it wasn't a hurricane when it got up here, but it was still a strong tropical storm and the only tropical system I have witnessed with lightning and thunder twice! Before Ivan, I never knew they produced lightning/thunder, only heavy rain/winds/tornadoes.

My scariest weather experience was when a severe thunderstorm brought winds as high a 90mph. It was on Sunday, July 25, 2010 after what was a hot day until the thunderstorm brought temperatures down by 20° degress. Here's a link to what a recorded and uploaded to my other youtube account.

Long Island, August-September 2012 tornadoes, Hurricane Sandy, Blizzard of 2013, how many places on Earth do you know can get all 3 of those events within a 6 month period?

Bumping. Scariest moment was tracking the April 27th tornado outbreak from Chattanooga. Ringgold, GA, got slammed just south of us by an EF-4 tornado. The town was levelled and 20 people died. The damage was so severe our school's propositions to assist in the city clean-up was repeatedly refused.
Tiddlywinks.
