Winter Storm Athena

Wasn't sure where to put this...the mods may consider making a child board for winter storms.

According to Stephanie Abrams' Facebook page, TWC is now calling this Nor'Easter "Athena".

Lol, what a joke. Parts in the  northern central plains had higher amounts of snow from previous storms this season, surprised to see them naming this. Anyway, 35.5°F Rain/Snow mix out on the island.

Long Island, August-September 2012 tornadoes, Hurricane Sandy, Blizzard of 2013, how many places on Earth do you know can get all 3 of those events within a 6 month period?

They didn't name the winter storm that dumped over a foot of snow over northwest Minnesota a few weeks ago...

They're naming this storm but not the one that is prompting blizzard warnings in Montana?  :dunno:

I agree with all of you. Carl Parker said that the reason why they named this storm was because of "societal" reasons, given that we were just hit with Sandy. They need a criteria for storms like this, not just their opinion on how many people it will effect and how will it effect them.

Exactly my point. <_<

There's only one reason why TWC is naming this storm: they only care about the Northeast.

Because of the inconsistency with their naming system and the fact that its not officially supported by the NWS I'm hesitant to make a subforum. What do you all think?

I vote a big "no" on that idea.  The naming of Athena here proves there is no objective and consistent naming system in place, and TWC decided on this process alone without consulting anyone else in the meteorological community.  No one else is going to recognize these names.
