THESE CONDITIONS WILL BRING AN INCREASING THREAT FOR RAPIDLY SPREADING WILDFIRES LATER THIS MORNING THROUGH THE AFTERNOON AND INTO THE EARLY EVENING HOURS.A NORTH TO NORTHWEST WIND OF 10 TO 15 MPH IS EXPECTED TODAY, WITH OCCASIONAL GUSTS TO AROUND 20 MPH. RELATIVE HUMIDITY LEVELS ARE FORECAST TO DROP TO AROUND 20 PERCENT OR LESS THIS AFTERNOON. WITH THE RECENT DRY CONDITIONS, THERE IS A HEIGHTENED CONCERN FOR WILDFIRES TODAY.THE FORECAST WIND SPEEDS FOR TODAY FALL JUST BELOW THE RED FLAG WARNING CRITERIA FOR NEW JERSEY, DELAWARE AND MARYLAND. SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENTNATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PITTSBURGH PA618 PM EDT MON MAR 23 2009...FIRE THREAT WILL CONTINUE EARLY THIS EVENING AND TUESDAY...VERY DRY AIR HAS MOVED OVER THE UPPER OHIO VALLEY. RELATIVEHUMIDITY READINGS WERE STILL BELOW 20 PERCENT AS OF 6 PM WITHNORTH AND NORTWEST WIND NEAR 10 MPH. FUEL MOISTURE VALUES ALSO AREVERY LOW.THIS COMBINATION OF LOW FUEL MOISTURE AND VERY LOW RELATIVEHUMIDITY HAS RESULTED IN AN INCREASED FIRE THREAT WHICH WILLCONTINUE UNTIL SUNDOWN...AT WHICH TIME FALLING TEMPERATURES WILLINCREASE THE RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES.DRY CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE ON TUESDAY WITH WIND EXPECTED TO VEERTO THE EAST AT 10 TO 15 MPH.
