It's early, but I guess if it's gonna be this cold it might as well be record territory. I might see single digits for lows next week, that will challenge or break records. A first time of single digit lows since 2003. Fun times ahead...

There have already been records set in my area just from the last few days due to the cold air.  If this one ends up worse, I may see high wind warnings and more record lows, and I'm not looking forward to it as I still have to do morning balloon launches into that sub-freezing wind. :(

Much of the East is in for a wicked Monday and Tuesday in terms of wind and cold air.  More model guidance is suggesting that this Arctic outbreak will be quite significant.  It doesn't help that we have a blocking ridge over Greenland, which is keeping the upper-level trough over eastern Canada and the Northeast.

Beginning right now, I probably won't hit freezing until possibly Christmas... :brr:
At least the snow will stick around, though!  :)

This is going to be an interesting week for me, there's a chance of a wintry mix midweek. I'm getting excited, but I'm not excited about the potential for ice although were overdue, we haven't had a icestorm event since January 2005. Come to think of it, I don't believe I've ever seen us under a Icestorm Watch/Warning during an icestorm before either... I hope the models start showing the disturbance shifting south so there's less chance of a changeover to rain that Thursday. So far the forecasts are for snow/mix Wed, to mix Wed. Night  to rain Thursday.

A winter storm warning just got issued for my area from 11 PM EST tonight to 7 AM EST Friday.  A total of 4-6" from snow and sleet with a small amount of ice from freezing drizzle or freezing rain is expected.  It looks like the worse of winter is coming early!
