These past two days were interesting. Not just the typical heat wave we've been having this week (aka "Hot Week"), but we've also been getting some interesting monsoonal storms. Duck Centro and the rest of the IV have never had a monsoonal thunderstorm since 2008.
Yesterday (thursday) and today, we've been under a severe thunderstorm warning. Yuma was part of it, and was hit hard by Thursday night's severe thunderstorm. Trees are down and about 10,000 are without power. (Today, that number went down to 7,000).
In today's storm, we got the dust, the high winds, and huge blobs of rain. I got a phone call from one of my friends in Brawley that penny-sized hail fell! It was reported that most of the IV got hail, up to ping-pong sized. Duck Centro didn't get any hail (makes me jealous. >_>)
Here's a picture of the hail that fell in Seeley, which is a town west of EC. (NOTE: pic is not mine).
According to NWS, Yuma is again under a severe thunderstorm warning...
