Heat
« on: August 01, 2012, 11:19:54 PM »
Oklahoma City hit 112 today and is expected to reach that temp tomorrow. I don't think I've EVER seen a temp that high for OKC area.

That being said, what has been the hottest temperature recorded in the US so far this year?

Just glancing through the record, this popped out. It hit 121 degrees in Ocotillo Wells, California, and the same temperature in Bullhead City, Arizona, on July 10th.

Hottest temperature today was in Enid, Chandler, and Okmulgee Oklahoma, at 115.

I believe the highest temperature recorded in the US so far this year, if you want to include Death Valley, was 128°F on July 15th, which is also the 10th hottest temperature ever recorded in the US.

Long Island, August-September 2012 tornadoes, Hurricane Sandy, Blizzard of 2013, how many places on Earth do you know can get all 3 of those events within a 6 month period?

Wow that's steamy for Death Valley. I know Death Valley's temps are much like Kuwait City's or Basra, Iraq's temps where it's usually in the high 110s to low 120s in summer. Did anyone have a record temp broken in their area recently? Here in Atlantic City we hit 102 recently which broke the record of high of 100 during the same period in July of 2010.

Being in Florida, it's fairly impossible to get temperatures into the triple-digits; the highest I've seen this year (and it wasn't summer yet!), was 99°F (rounding up from 98.6°F) at about 5 PM on May 25, 2012. Mind you, this report was at KVDF where temps can get hotter inland than by the coast in the afternoon, but that same day, KTPA (Tampa International Airport), broke a record high at 96°F.

A more telling measure to gauge this heat wave is to use the average temperature, which is just the average of the high and low for each day.  This summer has already made a significant impression in my area:

...HOTTEST JULY EVER IN ROANOKE...

JULY 2012 WAS THE HOTTEST JULY EVER IN RECORDED HISTORY FOR

80.8 DEGREES. THE PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 80.2 DEGREES FROM 1993 AND

Damn, this is some serious HEAT to do something like this. They mention a nearby fire may have played a part also, but the fire was apparently a result of the heatwave.

I saw 113 reported for both OKC and Chandler on weather.com. Can someone confirm this?
