This winter season (December 2007-February 2008) turned out to be the coolest winter we've seen since 2001, and the 54th coolest since records began in 1895, according to the NCDC. Here is the full story (http://"http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2008/20080313_coolest.html").

I'm confused.
2001 was one of the warmest winters so I dont know how this is the "coolest winter since 01". And I thought this winter was pretty average to me. Although I must admit we've been getting a lot of snow lately
