Yes, we do buy all the rights to the music we use. We contacted Trammell via phone and he did give us permission to use the music, and we did request that he wrote an email to us saying that exact same thing.

Buying the rights to music can be very expensive. Are you buying them from some site or directly from the artist/studio?

Unless you have a signed paper from Trammell you have no official agreement. He must be out of his mind or severly misunderstood what you all are doing. It seems odd that an artist would be willing to throw in support so easily. Why did you not choose any other music? It seems kinda silly just to copy what TWC uses. Although I guess thats the backbone behind your whole "operation"

The more I look at your setup the more suspicious I get. Why are you all going to great lengths to cover your tracks? You are using a third party source ( Domains by Proxy) to hide your info for your domain. However it cleverly states in both the TOS for that site that:

"Prohibitions: Domains By Proxy is not intended to be used to protect your identity if you:
Violate the law or infringe a third party’s trademark or copyright;"

If you are not doing anything wrong, why bother going to great lengths to hide your info. GoDaddy has been cracking down on that kinda stuff lately!

The whole domain info "hiding" is something that everyone should do if they get a domain and think their site is going to be popular since anyone can just whois it and screw with their personal information. I learned that the hard way. I got a domain, site was somewhat popular and then I had some guys calling me up calling me a faggot all day. Since all of that information has to be valid, it's a good idea to get that.

Not trying to be on either side here, really, but just pointing out that it's not just for mischievous purposes.

Ha. At least you haven't had any death threats or a mysterious order of pizza(s) or something.

I'm suspicious of the music. Even though Trammell composed the music, I don't think he would really have a say so. He wrote that music, under contract, specifically for TWC. So really, all of the music belongs to TWC, not Trammell. Then again, after 14 years, TWC may not give a crap, but I highly doubt that's the case.

Well..considering they still DO use some of it on WxScan, and much of it on the emergency playlist, I'd say they DO still give a crap about it.  :D

My real worry here is that TWC/NBC are going to wind up shutting all of us down because of stuff like this. You can only push the envelope so much before they get tired of it and decide that everyone's fan sites/spinoffs/mockery's have to go.

I feel the same way. Especially when we're dealing with a large corporation here. They'll be cracking down on copyright issues and all that crap. It's only a matter of time.

Speaking of large corporations, why is NBC compared to other companies, so stringent on copyright infringement?

I just hate NBCs guts. I hope that they make one huge mistake and then they get closed :club:

No, there was more to it than just money. Did it ever occur to you that Frank Batten is becoming quite old? Maybe he wanted to sell off his company so he could retire and live out the rest of his life in peace.

I love how I can spend several years and several thousands of dollars to earn a qualification (Meteorologist) that a 12 year old can come online and pretend to be... what the hell...

Doesn’t this whole SS8 thing involve the WS4000 emu? Have they (Bill) accepted this “incorporation”?

I find it very hard to believe that Trammell gave rights to his TWC music, when I contacted him; I had asked him if he could possibly sell me the rights to any TWC songs, he said no as they were created for TWC, they are property of TWC, Trammell created them and sold them to TWC, however he did offer to create new music for me that was similar. So I think this whole “Trammell said we could” is a load of crap.

I had also filled a “complaint” (copyright issue) with the SS8 website a few months ago as TWC in regards to an image that was TWC’s (The whole SS8 Custom Radar screen or whatever was just a local TWC radar image). The image was removed a week later.

All of this is soo un-original. I mean, SilverStar 8 (Star?) (LOT8’s?) Comparing the NWS / TWC forecast, the SS8 maps are just a cross between the two… The text forecasts? NWS text forecasts with more grammatically correct verbs and pro-nouns…

This whole thing is the biggest load of …. Of… poop I’ve ever heard!

Edit: HAHA - What I really love is the image, below Andrew's picture, on the article that says:

Hahahaha!
