RIP Andy Gabrielson - Storm Chaser
« on: February 04, 2012, 09:12:46 PM »
From findthetornado.com -

Some very sad news to report tonight. Our storm chaser and personal friend Andy Gabrielson was killed in a car accident on I-44 in Oklahoma this afternoon. This was confirmed to me by his dad Greg via phone about 6:30 this evening.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Gabrielson family and our extended storm chaser family as well.

-Kory Hartman

According to recent news updates, Andy was killed when another car was going west in the eastbound lane, resulting in a head-end accident. For fellow storm chasers, we are turning on our GPS spotter location blips tonight in memory of Andy. RIP.

Many condolences to Mr. Gabrielson and his family. I, too, have decided to partake in this.
I've gone off on a journey to be a moderator at another forum, but this place will forever remain home for me~

I saw him interviewed on my local ABC affiliate WFAA-TV the night before the tragic accident. To this day, I'm still shocked and saddened . My thoughts and prayers go out to Andy's family and friends.

Here's WFAA-TV's news story prior to Andy's untimely death.

WFAA-TV's next update hours after the crash.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has identified the wrong-way driver as 55-year-old Gregory Preston Gilcrease, who had a prior arrest for public intoxication last month. There is no full confirmation on whether he was on the influence of alcohol or something else at the time...or if Gregory was suicidal. (Link to identification story)

Wow, that really sucks! He didn't die while storm-chasing, was he? I know that accidents and not the tornadoes themselves are the biggest dangers that storm chasers have to endure while heading out.

R.I.P. Mr. Gabrielson though.

No he didn't. He was heading home to Minnesota, until some wrong-way driver struck and killed him.
