Windows NT 4.0 PCMCIA Problem
« on: February 22, 2009, 08:19:34 PM »
I try to use a PCMCIA card and it gives me weird names in the list and complains about the card not having a database entry. :hammer:

Wow... It's been 10 or so years since I've used NT 4.0... NT 4.0 is pretty much like 95, except it lacks the device manager. I wish I knew how to help you :(

This is what the name of the card is coming up as.

R ÷5

I'm not kidding about the name. That's what really comes up.

Find NT 4 or 2000 drivers. Most of the time, the windows 2000 drivers will work.

It is a Microsoft MN-520 Wireless B Adapter.

Drivers won't install under NT but I got the card to function as a Netgear MA401 Once due to the cards having the same chipsets. (PRISM)

The card has a PRISM Chipset. (No other prism drivers have triggered it yet)

You just have to keep trying drivers until you find one that works. Try looking on driverguide.com. They have TONS of drivers there. If you can't find your driver there, you can't find it anywhere.

NT4 is not Plug and Play Compatible.  I found out that some support for it can be installed later on.

I'm still a NT4 user. All I can say is that the OS is not P&P, and you need to find the drivers.

Auctually, Windows 2K drivers never worked on my NT machine. Windows 2000 is far more advanced then NT4 was. I just never found the point.

If it helps, right click on the device in device manager, and click Properties or Edit. There should be somekind of options to set.

Some hints, make sure that it is upgraded to the latest service pack. That will help. Try plugging it into another system and find out the make and model of the PCMCIA card, then look up a Windows NT compatible card. The last thing (but sad) is to upgrade to a newer OS.

Luckly, im all covered with Windows 7 :bleh:
