Windows 7 - "Consider replacing your battery"
« on: August 29, 2010, 07:12:29 PM »
So, apparently Windows 7 has a major flaw in it that completely eff :censored: up your battery, yesterday I started getting a message on my battery meter on the taskbar stating that I should "consider replacing the battery", naturally I took the battery out and put it back in, problem solved...right?

wrong. after putting the battery back in the problem ceased...however it has returned today. I researched it a bit and apparently neither Microsoft or the manufacturer (in my case, HP) have an answer as to what is causing this to malfunction.

when the OS misreads the battery percentage while it is not charging, it can suddenly turn off when the battery is in fact fully charged.

has anyone else experienced this issue yet?

I guess it's worth noting that I bought my HP just a year ago with Windows Vista installed, but when the final release of Windows 7 came out for College Students i purchased and upgraded and had no problems up until yesterday.

Also: it's been mentioned on a few websites that if you do infact replace the battery, the issue continues.

Al, I currently have the same exact problem as you. I am in need of a battery replacement.

Sometimes, at 35% of battery power left, *POOF*.

Although I can't blame Windows 7. I haven't had any problems with it yet. On some computers, you need to replace the battery once a year. Batteries start to "die off" if you leave it plugged for a long time, or abruptly unplugging.

I'm pretty sure that actually buying a new battery and replacing the one you have now will solve the problem. I'm considering buying one but 1. it costs $150  and 2. It ships in three weeks.

Well, what's confusing me is that as of tonight, the message is gone.  :club: :pinch:

so i don't think it's the battery, just yet.

I have a Toshiba Satellite U405D-S2848 with Vista 32. Months ago I upgraded to Windows 7 and it was fantastic until a week ago I got this issue.
So, I dont wat to downgrade it to Vista, I dont have the money to buy another one, and before to buy another battery i would like to spend all ways to solve the software.
If you have one, please reply.
Thanks.
