Six Flags Seeks Bankruptcy
« on: June 13, 2009, 11:21:59 PM »
As previously speculated, Six Flags has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection today, having a reported $1.8 billion in debt. I hope Great Adventure, located a bit to my north, doesn't shut down. It's a popular destination for many schools here.

From what I heard on the news here, all 20 Six Flags won't be closing.

Not surprising to me. Those places are *Expensive*, though I've never been to one (not an amusement park person).

I doubt Great Adventure will be gone. It is after all the chief and largest Six Flags park.

yeah, but in these economic times even the best of the parks can be asked to cease operations...take chrysler for example, they're closing the best selling dealerships.

yeah, completely irrelevant from each other...but things like that happen.

the article does state all six flag parks will not be affected, so i suppose that's a good thing for now.

I've always wondered how Chrysler is able to close their dealerships. They aren't owned by Chrysler, they're privately owned.  :dunno:

They withdraw their right to operate as a Chrysler dealership, which effectively shuts down the dealership.

Due to increased competition and not a lot business. The park closed in I think the early 2000s. It briefly reopened in 2002 but closed again and so far is closed for good.  :(
