Video Games you grew up on
« on: July 01, 2007, 11:34:18 PM »
So what kind of then state-of-the-art gaming system did you grow up on? What was your favorite game on the system?

Being born in 1980, I grew up on the Atari 2600 and played such classics like Space Invaders, Pong, Asteroids, Ms Pac Man, Joust, and Galaxian. My favorite game for the Atari 2600 system was Astroblast, which was produced by Atari's competitor, Mattel Electronics (pioneers of the first ever 16-bit system known as the Intellivision).

Sure, there are glamorous games available on consoles and the computer today, but I still find myself going back to the old Atari for some simple old fashioned fun.

The PC in the mid 1990s. I wasn't really a big console person. In fact, the first console (or handheld) I got was the GameBoy Advance in 2002.

I grew up on the NES, SNES, Genesis, and original Playstation, but I voted for SNES. I still play my SNES to this day. My favorite games for the SNES are all of the Mario games, Illusion of Gaia, Secret Of Mana, the Final Fantasy series, and on and on. I could go on forever about my favorite SNES games. There were also a number of other systems that came out in thsi time period that I was a fan of (though they were never too popular) such as the Atari Jaguar, the Turbographx, the 3DO. Ahh, so many childhood memories in this topic.  :)

I grew up on the NES.  Some of my favorite games were the Super Mario Bros. 1 and 3, Duck Hunter , Punch out, a TMNT game, and there were a few others as well.  Since the NES I've has a Sony Playstation, Playstation 2, Microsoft Xbox, and Xbox 360.  I also had a friend with a Sega Genesis that we played a lot. Does anyone remember the fun of having to blow into the cartridges to get the games to work?  :D

Gil, I just have to know-how is it possible that you could remember doing this when the NES came on and went off the video game scene before you were born?

I can understand how you experienced the NES then. But with the SNES you rarely had to blow in the cartridges (at least in my experience).

Have you tried cleaning the contacts in the cartridge? I swear, i've had some of my SNES cartridges for more than 10 years and I've never blown on them.

I'm betting that if you did that you wouldn't have to blow on your SNES cartridges.
