I got the DVD recorder today. It has a tuner included, but the picture is kind of blurry. It's not as sharp as the cable coming from the wall directly into the TV. I will try recording the Weekend View HD premiere tomorrow morning onto a blank DVD-R. I hope the quality will at least be better than VHS.

Question...why do you need two DVD players hooked up (your recorder and the player?)

Good question. I realized that the setup was too complicated, so I took the VCR and DVD player out.

I filled up my first DVD this morning with ~6 hours of video. Now that the disc is finalized, I can play it on my computer. I want to rip the DVD to my PC. Anyone know of any good DVD ripping software. I've searched Google, and have found a few programs, but I don't know how good any of them are. What does anyone else use?

I use Nero. Simple and easy to use. Need I say more?  :P :twothumbs:

Maybe I should've specified... I'm looking for free DVD ripping software. :P

EDIT: Found a free/open source program called Handbrake... testing it out right now.

Okay, this is getting frustrating. After installing this Handbrake program, I've ripped the DVD to various different video formats. I can not edit any of them in Movie Maker.

Why don't you ask Spring Rubber or Lightning? Both use DVD recorders

I've used Handbrake. I thought it was a Mac-only app.

What do you mean by formats? Extensions, or actual codecs?

Both. I've tried basically all the different combinations of file formats and codecs the program offers.

That's really weird. I've never had a problem with it. But then again, I used a Mac. :D
