I still use a VCR and until technology gets better, I will continue to use one. I've never understood the appeal of DVRs. So it's like a VCR, but more expensive, can only be leased from your cable or satellite provider, and you can only save so much video? Um, yah, sign me up! :rolleyes: DVD recorders I like, except that if you mess up a recording, you have to start with a new disc.

I have another question,

how come VHS recordings are typically poor in quality? DVRs have good quality but not VCRs.

Because VCR recordings are on analog casette tapes, whereas DVR's are digital.

I would think that would be rather self-explanatory.  :blink:

Yes! That's exactly why I still use VCR's too! I wish you could record on DVD's without having to erase the data already on there, even on DVD-RW's. If you only have a DVD-R and end up recording something you didn't mean to record, you just wasted a disc! With VHS, all you have to do is simply record over it.

I have two VCRs...one built-in to my TV, and one exclusive to my computer's tuner.

I use my PC for HDTV recording, then dub to DVD.  Same with my old game show tapes...dub from VHS to DVD.

I have the best setup, I have a Motorola DVR that has firewire which is connected to my PC. Whenever something of interest happens I just rewind and hit record on my PC. Its great because the quality is remarkable and I can record full HD!

To bump this topic...

I'm seriously considering getting a DVD recorder. I think I've found one that has everything I'm looking for in it, but I've never used a DVD recorder before, so I can't be completely sure.
