That's awful.  :(

It was certainly a shock to learn of this news.
It took my father back a bit since he found out that Tim Russert was the same age as he is.

NBC News has been covering this story for the first 20 minutes and counting so far.
Former long-time anchor Tom Brokaw made a special appearance tonight to talk about Russert.

I certainly remember his countless hours of reporting and analysis during the infamous 2000 Presidential election
when controversy surrounded the Florida vote count.

Even though I hadn't watched him much, he will be missed on television.
And his voice is very memorable as well.

He was a great man in the broadcasting industry. :(
I remember watching him all the time on the television when I was little.  :(

This is a shocker. I really enjoyed his political coverage, more so than most other reporters.  :(

Also, no offense, but out of respect, can we rename this topic to something like "Tim Russert Dies at age 58," or "Time Russert Passes Away?" The current title seems to shout and whatnot. Just a thought... thanks.

It was meant more for emphasis than to shout. As you surely agree, this is a pretty major breaking story.  :sunglasses:

Not to mention that both suggestions were used on your forum. I don't like to look like a mirror image of another site. Need we go back into that whole individuality discussion?  :twothumbs:

I will, however, see if I can come up with some suitable compromise. Of course, if you have suggestions (that didn't appear on your site) I welcome them.  :sunglasses:

I've come up with what I believe to be a suitable compromise. There's no mistaking it for shouting, yet gets the point across and is different from the two thread titles at TWCC (one of which has since been removed, BTW).

BTW Tyler, I thought bad news wasn't allowed on your forum anymore?  :whistling:

Gary, I believe Matt and Tyler just don't want topics that have to do with serious violence and murder-related topics. For a time, they didn't want political subjects being discussed either, but given this is an election year and that we know what their forum rules are, it appears that postings in a specific election thread have been acceptable and respectful of others' opinions. So they've allowed postings to continue as long as it doesn't get out of control.

I also think that Matt and Tyler don't want to see multiple topics that are of a very negative or depressing nature. It's basically where we have to make a judgment call on what specific topics are worth discussing and others that really don't belong on their forum.

That rule is quite like the law-chock full of loopholes.

Didn't we agree to stay out of how we handle each other's forums? So far, things have been good between us since my return. Can we keep it that way?  ;)

But, since you inquired... that rule was brought about because certain people were posting multiple topics depressing topics daily, which Matt and I, as many others, found unappealing. But, when under control, these topics are allowed in moderation, and only for big events (I.e. not: Johnny La Lou La of East Bumfukt died on the toilet [1) said person doesn't apply to any of us; 2) topic is not relevant]).Get my drift?

Also, as Paul stated concerning the political threads... at one point, they were banned, because several members did not respect others' views. But, several, if not all of those members have since been banned, and I brought the idea up to Matt, and he agreed to try it, as long as all politics were kept in in one thread, and the thread's participants were respectful. So far, things have went well. :twothumbs:

That rule is quite like the law-chock full of loopholes.
And while I know you're just kidding, I don't find that statement funny. The very few exceptions to our rules are spelled out completely by either myself of Matt so there is no confusion.

We did agree to that, but it seems that you guys have stuck your nose's in over here occassionally, so I figured it wouldn't hurt if I did the same for one time.  :sunglasses:

IMHO, you should've banned the morons instead of wasting your time with such a rule, if its the conduct and not the content thats the problem.  :twothumbs:

I'm not sure why Paul commented about political threads, as this is more of a bad news item than a political one.  :hmm:

As for my comment, whilst I was kidding I really am no fan of such rules. It makes you look petty and lazy as an admin. As I said above, I'd rather just ban the dopes and be done with the matter.  :P

My dad watch Tim Russert on CNBC for years. Gosh, it's so sad he died. I've seen him on the shows since I was younger.

R.I.P Tim Russert

Definitely.

I'm just curious as to who they are going to put in the actual seat.  I think David Gregory or Andrea Mitchell should get the spot.  I read a few "speculations" of his son taking over.  But, I doubt that'll happen./...

Yeah I think it would make sense for the seat to go to one of them (Gregory or Mitchell). It has always seemed that they would make logical choices as next in line for the Nightly News job. Of course, they probably won't be looking for anyone to fill that job for awhile.

I have a hunch that Gregory seems like the most apt person for the job...he's that kind of provocative reporter-type (not that Mitchell isn't)
