Touched by ill mom's story, man returns stolen camera

By JIM DOUGLAS / WFAA ABC 8

EDMOND, Okla. — A terminally ill mother recently targeted by a thief received an unforgettable Christmas surprise on Tuesday.

While Jami McElrath's family ate at a restaurant near the Six Flags Over Texas theme park on December 1 in Arlington, a thief smashed out the family's car window and grabbed some precious items out of her car.

McElrath, of Edmond, Okla., has inoperable cancer and was taking pictures to fill up a scrapbook as a gift to her children. One of the items taken from the car was the camera she had been using to take those pictures.

"I just want my camera back," she said. "I just want those memories back."

Still doesn't change the fact that the thief committed a sin, but at least he did the right thing to return it.
