Title: The Weather Network
Post by: Localonthe8s on May 15, 2008, 05:36:03 PM
So does anyone like TWC's sister station TWN (the weather network) in canada?

I like it 'cuz there's less commercials than TWC but I don't like because they play the same song for the entire year. My favorite was the 2005 theme. I wish I can get w/o narration. http://youtube.com/watch?v=h0aW-fDZIhQ

I also like the weather forecasts. They seem to have very less series programming unlike TWC and everytime i tune in to that channel I see they're always doing up-to-date weather coverage   :twothumbs:

TWN is definitely better than TWC. Their graphics are more simple and they don't seem to overhype as much as TWC, and like you said they have no long form programming (if any, very little). The only downside is they have just one song on the LF that changes once in a good while. In fact, the current theme has been used for nearly two years now. That probably wouldn't bother me, though.

Can someone upload footage of what the Lawn & Garden Forecast segment looks like (currently)? I've never seen this anywhere.

Sort of :P TWN is live about 60 / 70% of the time. A lot of repeating is done. They can tape something at 9am and play it until noon.

TWN has NO long for programming... Its all 100% weather, no shows. Just small 2 minute segments. TWN's parent company, Pelmorex, is however launching a 24 hour channel, seprate to TWN, dedicated to longform programming with no local weather; thats what I call choice!

Mike, the Lawn and Garden segment stopped around Sept 1st... I dont have a clip of it.

The new one will be called "The Environment Channel (http://www.theweathernetwork.com/static/aboutus/docs/en/pelmorex_license.pdf)"

Why should they have a local forecast on TEC when they already own a channel that has local forecasts?

It's supposed to be a staple product for all weather channels. If TWC got rid of the local forecasts, it would be a disaster to many.

The Environment Channel isn't going to have any weather forecasts though, it will have 100% long-form programming, eliminating the need for an LF. Think of it as a weather-oriented version of the Discovery Channel.

I wish we had a similar channel here in the US. Why can't we?

Can it also be compared to a 24 hour version of TWC's crappy long form?

Yes.

TWC has taken long form programming and weather coverage and made one channel out of it.

TWN has taken weather coverage, made a channel for that, and then taken long form programming and made a seprate channel for that, leaving ultimate choice to the viewer as to what they want to watch.

Also, word from TWN is that they are looking for a new music piece for the locals, but I'm doubtful.

Can't TWN change their playlist? Like maybe adding 10 new songs every Quarter. Maybe they can license from BMI or ASCAP, although that seems pricey

Its pointless to do, and takes too much effort, right now, it's sooooo bloody simple to keep things the way they are.

I just loveeeeeee the weather network sometimes I just wanna move to Canada just because Id have the weather network. :D  I wish the weather channel would use some of the weather networks previous graphics like the 2005-2007 Era. Those graphics would fit twc perfectly.
