My iBook bit the dust last night. :( It was frozen, with the hard drive crankin' away. I turned it off, and when I turned it back on, no boot. I can't access it in Target Disk Mode, so I hope the drive is not dead. LOTS of important stuff on there....

jtmalnet (12:31:08 AM): whoa
jtmalnet (12:31:49 AM): nickelodeon just scrolled a message saying that Time Warner Cable and Brighthouse Networks cable customers were going to lose Nickelodeon and 18 other Viacom networks on January 1st....

They're gonna lose CBS channels, Nickelodeon, TV Land, MTV, VH1, etc.... this is interesting how cable channel carriage agreements are coming about...

I just watched the simpsons, the one when santa's little helper joined the police force and bart gets a boa constrictor? Well apparently the snake knocks over a beaker of ethanol and nitric acid, and I think to myself "I know that makes nitromethane, which is rocket fuel, but how can I turn that into a molecular formula?"

So I try to do it... But, I am having trouble figuring out what the coefficients are supposed to be and whether water is a byproduct.... Now, I know methanol and nitric acid turn into nitromethane and water... so wtf... This is bugging me and I was hoping someone might be able to help me figure this out....

Using Ethanol and Nitric Acid without a water byproduct:
__C2H6O + __HNO3 => __CH3NO2

Using Ethanol and Nitric Acid with a water byproduct:
__C2H6O + __HNO3 => __CH3NO2 + __H2O

Using Methanol and Nitric Acid:
CH3OH + HNO3 => CH3NO2 + H2O
with this, it makes sense that H2O comes out of the equation to make it all add up.

Maybe I'm diving in too deep with this... I don't know.
It seems as though I was wrong.... I had help and we have come to this conclusion how the two (ethanol and nitric acid) can mix....

C2H6O + HNO3 + O2 => CH3NO2 + CO2 + 2H2O

You add oxygen so that the two can combust using a combustion reaction to create rocket fuel, carbon dioxide, and water.
It took us a few hours to figure this out. Man, I haven't taken Chemistry in a while. lol

Yeah I was at a friends house last night, and they had the same thing scrolling on their satillite TV.  I turn on the TV this morning, and the channel was on VH1, and the same scroll was scrolling.  Luckily, I am not affected by this.

On Monday I went to the orthodontist to pick up my new retainer (my other one had broken), and it was VERY tight on my teeth, because I hadn't worn one in 2 weeks.  That night I put it in, and it hurt like hell, and it continues to.  So, I'm just going to have to wear it for a while to get used to it.  But my teeth are SOO tender.

I seeing this scroll now, it's even an article about this on yahoo's homepage at the bottom. IMO I think this is just outrageous.

Yep. I guess Comcast isn't as bad as I thought now, but I am still trying to make the change to AT&T Digital Cable. I find this stupid that they would just drop 19 channels like that. I am never going to switch back to Time Warner!
