I don't understand how their free. You paid $30 for a year of service! Those calls are no freer than calls you make on your cell phone or a regular landline phone.

I want to try Zerizons pay-as-you-go phones... they seem halfway decent

Visual Studio is quite a bit of money... varying beyond used and new versions, it'll cost you between $200 and $700.
