Are they on strike? If not, then I don't see why they would start school that late! 

The latest I've started school was on September 9 in 2002, when my school district was on strike for about a week.

All schools should start after Labor Day, IMO. I don't understand why there are some schools that start on August and others that start on mid-September.

Here, school always starts two days after Labor Day.

When I was in school, I always wished that it would start on September 5th. My birthday is on the 4th, and I thought it just sucked to have to go to school on my birthday!

I don't also understand why schools start on August. I mean August just doesn't "fit" the standard month of September when school starts. Like some schools start on Aug 7th where is too much heat and sun. It's still the middle of summer, kids need a break rather going back so early.

Last year I had to walk home from school in 105 degree weather because I didn't have anyone to pick me up. That was around Mid August on the first day of school.
