Can you install the WinTV HVR 1600 tuner on a laptop? It's a internal tuner and requires you to rip open the hard drive. I might be getting one in the summer

No..

But that's neat, a tuner that requires you to rip open the hard drive!

Because the 1600 is a PCI device. Laptops don't have PCI slots.

eww that sucks. The WinTV 950's picture quality is pretty bad but i can live wth it. when recording with the 950, does the tuner have to be near the tv?
