Ya'll wanna hear a whacky story?

Okay, on the night of July 17, 2006 at 10pm there was a tornado warning for Bergen Co, NJ. The temp was 92 degrees at the time. (FOR REAL!!), so when my uncle heard it was raining he grew excited and opened the windows, door and turned up the radio. I was watching TWC while listening to the song "Peace with Myself" by Nestor Torres on the lf when all of a sudden the electricity went out. My aunt grew furious and closed the windows. I tried to close the door and when all of a sudden, it slammed shut all by itself and of the glasses broke. I RAN and said "OMG, there's a twister!".

I slept and we had no electricity all night which caused a hot and sweaty night. Then when I woke up I found out a derecho hit the area and knocked a big tree 200 yards away from us. WABC 7 said the winds in our area that time was around 54mph. So there's my story :P

Mission accomplished. The stapler is pretty much all taken apart (after I had to break some plastic). Surprisingly, all the metal parts are made from steel.

during the event of a tornado, residences have been known to open their windows to keep them protected from the glass when and if it breaks. though what vic said doesn't quite make sense to me.

Aren't you supposed to get AWAY from any window during a tornado?

Yes, you are correct Stephen.

Opening windows to avoid broken glass is pointless because you won't avoid it. Also, it also straight line winds to blow into your home, which could cause very serious damage. You should always keep your windows shut and stay away from them.

The science behind the age-old myth is that the pressure differences when the windows are closed are very different between the inside and outside. WHen the pressure build up, your house "explodes". People thought that if you open the windows, the pressure wont build up , saving the house. NO idea whether its true.
