My desktop computer suddenly decided to not come on this morning. And no, it doesn't have anything to do with the storms in our area last night, because I had it unplugged all night. Now, tihs morning, when I press the power button, nothing at all happens. But, what is now happening is the power light in front of the computer is blinking for a split second constantly, and the same thing is happening to the power light in the back of the machine. Anybody know what's wrong, and how to fix it? Thanks in advance. B)

This REALLY blows...

So we had a 2 hour delay today due to freezing rain and sleet... main roads were cleared by 8:30 so the school didn't cancel... but all the back roads were still iced over. So I started walking to the bus stop, and I walk on a back road (ice covered), and fell FACE FORWARD, ripped a huge ass hole in my jeans, screwed up me knee (it's scratched up and bleeing quite a bit). So I ran home to get the ice/dirt out of the cut, change because now I was soaked (and has a hole in my jeans lol), and missed the bus.

I love two hour delays and all, but today was a horrible experience. LOL.

Seems like a dead or nearly dead power supply.

Sounds to me (and I've been fixing computers for a VERY long time) like a power supply problem.

And contrary to your belief, it COULD have something to do with the storms. I assume you use an ethernet cable and card to connect to the internet, and if that's the case lightning could very possibly have traveled through that and fried your PC. Yep, you don't need to have it plugged in to get it fried. I've dealt with many computers that were fried via the modem or ethernet connection.

Actually that's what came to my mind, too.

I was going to say temporarily short the CMOS setting on the motherboard, but probably not in this situation.

Yeah I don't think that messing with the CMOS would do any good.

My advice, provided Stephen doesn't want to attempt to tackle the inside of the PC himself, would be to take it to a place like FireDog or Geek Squad, at Circuit City or BEst Buy, respectively.

I fix my own too, but I bought a PC once from Circuit City and FireDog, and they were HORRIBLE. Lied about the pick-up time(and it was clearly a "slow" business day)... and the people there are idiots.
