I'm currently having to re-image my Windows XP desktop computer with the built in recovery software which is on another partition of the hard drive, with an image of the Windows XP SP1 installation that the computer came with, because when I booted up the system this morning, it'd get almost to the logon screen, but it would go no further than the Windows XP logo. (It would do the same even in Safe Mode.) <_< It's going to be fun having to install 1 million Windows Updates after this gets through. :wall:

Oh I know how it feels to be in that boat. Although I'm not lucky enough to be able to restore from a backup partition. My hard drive went up in November, at which time I went to Wal-Mart to get a new one, and since then I've been to Wal-Mart 3 times returining dead hard drives that I've purchased there. I have to go there again tomorrow to take back another one. If I ever get a decent working drive I'll be amazed. I'm very close to demanding a refund instead of an exchange, because it seems that they simply don't sell working hard drives.  :P <_<

I've now uninstalled all the crapware from HP/Compaq from this machine. Now I'm going to go and install XP SP2 and other updates if they are necessary and then I'll start getting things back together. B)

Tell me, exactly how can I get Vista on a machine with only 256 MB of RAM? :ermm:

Anyways, I have XP Service Pack 2 installed now, which means I'll be able to install SP3 with no problems when it comes out. :D

I know, but I would at least expect you to know the basics of computers. ;)

just because someone knows what RAM is doesn't make them a computer nerd, if I were stephen i'd be deeply offended...anyone who is everyone should know what RAM is if they own a computer (which is part of the basics)   :whistling:
