It's been just over a month since Jenni Rivera died, yet the Spanish news media just won't let go of her. I was pretty shocked and in disbelief when I first saw the headline on December 9, but I've gotten over it, and it's time to move on. Honestly, I'm getting of all these news stories having to do with her and whatnot. She's already been laid to rest; so should these headlines.

Does anyone know if we broke or tied that streak of non-fatalities from tornadoes for 2012-2013? The last I heard we were two days away from tying it.

Long Island, August-September 2012 tornadoes, Hurricane Sandy, Blizzard of 2013, how many places on Earth do you know can get all 3 of those events within a 6 month period?

Hope everyone is having a good start to the new year!  January seems to be a rough month for some of the reasons you all stated about the lack of holidays and saying good-bye to Christmas.  Are there any things you all do to help cope with the post-holiday blues?  I wouldn't mind a few ideas as January hasn't been kind to me in past years although this current one isn't bad so far.

Even though I'm the world's biggest procrastinator, I actually did my taxes this morning.  Some things even I don't mess with. :smoke2:

Oh please, I'm worse than you. :P Haven't gotten my W2s back yet so I can't do anything at the moment. My workplace is always late on that.

I find it hard to believe that anybody could be worse at procrastinating than I am!  :)

I usually get my W-2s well ahead of time.  I couldn't sleep last night, so as soon as I found the link for my W-2 in my email inbox, I started doing my taxes.  My taxes are actually as simple as they come, so it didn't take that long.

I have TurboTax ready to go and just need my W-2 form to arrive before I can do mine.

Let's Play: FIND THE COLD FRONT! :P

In all seriousness, the temp. divide going from TN/MS/AL down to GS/SC is freakin crazy! You're talking about nearly a 50 degree difference. :o

It's in the 80's down here right now. It's way too warm! Tomorrow will be the LAST day in this week-long warm streak. I've liked the warmer temps, but it's not normal for this time of year. Waking up to 30's in the mornings in the coming days will be a huge shock to our systems.

My friends (natives of Minnesota and North Dakota for most of their lives), are joking that an inch of snow in Atlanta will bring the city to its knees. It is always interesting to see how different regions respond to snowfall. Obviously since the south is usually ill-prepared for the white stuff, the reactions to snowfall down there are slightly more hysterical than reactions farther north (this is just what I've noticed).

Well, they learned their lesson from the January 9, 2011 Snowstorm and bought/have a total of 75 snow removal trucks, in addition they have 1,900 other pieces of equipment with other outside companies for backup. We only had 10 total at the time this snowstorm hit so that's a HUGE improvement in my opinion. They didn't get to be used last winter since it was mild and snowless, we'll see how they do tomorrow.

Just be lucky you guys don't live here. Over the past 7 days, the closest we got to winter was just some sleet this morning. Otherwise, the temperatures have been swinging, after it being mild and having some 60's, the tulips are sprouting. Now it's been 30's and damp, cloudy, and dark. It's really depressing, worst place to live if you want sun. Heck, even some palm trees still have green on them and are still alive. Next week may bring some cold air, though I'm skeptical of how cold it will get. I say only as cold as maybe 15°F. Coldest temp so far this season is only 23°F. Snow chances are small, at most a few inches, and if some of the individual members come to fruition, then we could talk maybe a foot. Otherwise, cold, dry and brown for a while.  :wall:
