Congrats on the college entrance!

I just received word that I have been accepted as a weather intern for one of my local television stations this summer!  So excited, I can't even handle it.  Haha.

Speaking of that, I just found out a couple weeks ago that my meteorology program at my school does not offer forecasting courses.  Some of the alum have said they didn't learn until their first job or at their internship; I'm definitely going to have my eyes and ears open with this internship.  I mean, really?  You're not going to teach future meteorologists how to forecast?  Is this normal?  Do you just take what you've learned about meteorology and the atmosphere and then apply it to the forecasting models?

Well, do they call the program Meteorology or Broadcast Meteorology? If it's just meteorology, I'm surprised to hear that they don't offer a forecasting course. My school offers it; in fact, if you want an internship with any forecasting group in town (the NWS or a company called Meridian are popular here), you have to pass that class in order to be eligible.

If it's Broadcast Meteorology, then I'm not sure if the same criteria applies. I'm not exactly knowledgable in that, though.

Sorry about the double post, I just saw this article not too long ago. It's about time, this is what made a lot of commercials annoying.

If your meteorology program is just considered Broadcast, then I would suspect that no forecasting courses are offered because broadcast relies heavily on communication as compared to actual forecasting.  I bet you have to take some courses in communication, right?

OMG, thank goodness!  It's honestly ridiculous that stations would make their shows barely audible but then make a person deaf when the commercials came on.

Operational and broadcast meteorology are different but I thought for sure a broadcast curriculum would include some basic forecasting. Most of the ones I have looked at do. Very interesting none are included at your school.
