we've been having sporadic power outages tonight, around 915 the power went out for about 2 hours. the lines were replaced and power came back up, 7 minutes after restoring the power, they went out again.

update: the state of texas is experiencing rolling black outs so that the power grid does not fail.

Quote
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), which manages electric power to 22 million Texas customers, has declared a level 3 Energy Emergency Alert. ERCOT urges customers to reduce consumption of energy due to an overload on the system. Level 3 requires "firm load shedding" to restore and maintain system frequency, according to the council.

Dang! Hope power gets returned to you soon, Al.

Jim Cantore's reaction is PRICELESS!  I was hoping to experience some thundersnow during this storm, however that did not happen.  A couple of my friends who live south of my area said they saw it.  What an amazing phenomenon to experience, I imagine.

16.7" from the blizzard, 18.4" since Monday.  This is my areas 2nd largest snowstorm on record.  If that 18.4" had been all from the blizzard, the record would have been tied for the largest.  Worst storm since 1974 here!

What is it with this guy and thundersnow?

Did you not see how inceredibly close that blue lightning was to him and Mike Bettes while they were talking? I would have reacted the same way if not worse dropping more than just the B-bomb...(Although Jim stopped clear of saying it)

The thunder followed about one to two seconds after both flashes, so lightning struck about 1/3 mile away from him twice.  That's really dangerous, and he apparently didn't see any other flashes before those two based on his reactions.

That right there is IMPOSSIBLE to get in Cincinnati.. Even though we've had an above average snowy winter here, It still kinda sucked since we got all our snows in small 2"-4" events and not huge 6"+ storms  <_< I really do hate the weather here, but it's better than nothing I guess.. It could be worse and no snow at all.

For those of you who didn't remember this, here's a video from when Punxsutawney Phil came to Penn State three years ago. This is in the old weather station in Walker Building, before the renovations. A fellow recent Meteo graduate from PSU got his handlers to bring Phil in.

Punxsutawney Phil Visits PSU, Part 1

Punxsutawney Phil Visits PSU, Part 2

Punxsutawney Phil Visits PSU, Part 3

Enjoy! (Although I should have posted this yesterday) :P

I strongly agree with you, Patrick. It's a shame too these days, that teachers only care about their salaries. Another thing that makes me upset is that the classes often teach students "to the test". The purpose for us to attend school is to learn. Should what we learn during 4 years in high school be wasted on a 4 hour SAT or ACT exam? We should be learning for the sake of knowledge, not test-taking.
It's also why people are failing state tests, because they expect everyone to know whats on it WHEN THEY NEVER LEARNED IT <_<

Due to the weather for 2 days, school is canceled because of snow (<_<). I'm liking it cause 3 days without being in that terrible schoool. :) This is why I enjoyed school breaks so much.

I agree, i was talking to the school librarian whose son teaches at a public school. He finds is stressful that they have to teach the material covered in the ASK, GEPA, and HSPA because they have so many standardized tests that the students must know the material on.

Well, the groundhog didn't see his shadow a couple days ago, so spring is supposedly going to come soon.  One of the meteorologists at work then said, "I don't think the groundhog looked at the GFS for next week." :P
