So, I just got back from the Haslett High School talent show... except I was not in it nor was I an audience member... I was one of 3 people manning cameras. I'm really taking an active interest in being on TV production next year (which is what viewers of the E.L. and Haslett see on TV every Friday), as weather geek sounds neato to me :P
We just started using the cameras yesterday in TV Media Issues, and this was a new experience for me this evening... taking direction from the director in the control booth, and maneuvering the camera. It was definitely something you need to be awake for and concentrating on...
What channel? XD Is this on my cable system as well? 0_o If so, i'll tune in.
lol, as long as you still view 22842 (only with Comcast), you can see whatever Haslett has on on Channel 22 :)
TWC in...
Lansing: Comcast, Channel 36, STAR ID 22840
E. Lansing: Comcast, Channel 40, STAR ID 22842
Lansing Area: Broadstripe, Channel 40, STAR ID 25349
Current STAR count: 32. Be sure to see my channel for links to all the uploads!

I was woken up earlier this morning by a HUGE thunderstorm. Definitely the first thunderstorm of the year to me. I think some of the lightning bolts struck nearby because they were much louder than usual and the winds were very strong too.

You'll know it's nearby when the lightning makes a cracking noise before thunder (instead of just thunder), AND when you want to hide when you hear the cracking noise, AND your router dies. :P Been there, done that.

Ironically, that was exactly what happened. I heard some loud crackles then a huge boom of thunder. My electricity went out for over an hour this morning because of this. Certainly wasn't expecting thunderstorms since I thought the temps were too cold outside.

I know why you got the thunderstorms.  There's a big upper-level low sitting almost directly over you, which means the air is really cooling aloft.  Cooling the air aloft is just as effective as heating the surface to get the instability for thunderstorms to develop.  You also got a big dose of vorticity (rotation) increasing over you from that upper-level low, which helps in forcing the air to rise even if it's not so warm at the surface.

We had a simila etup on Wednesday and Friday, but the lightning and thunder wasn't too intense.
