Woke up at around 10:50 by a huge 5.9 earthquake!!! I had some frames and other things hanging on the wall falling off, and some things breaking as well. As for my family and I we're all ok.

Here's the preliminary report:
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/Quakes/ci14565620.php

I am glad I don't live in earthquake areas. I'll take weather events anytime. Glad yall are ok!

I'm actually used to earthquakes, as a native Cali girl. It's very hard to predict though.
Yeah, I was actually asleep when the earthquake occurred, when the quake reached it's strongest peak, I literally fell off my bed. It does explain why Abby was barking a lot, and Serafina and Miki were scratching the wall continuously. Most of the picture frames all over my house fell (two of them broke, including the one that has my Stephanie Abrams autograph). There was a report of a telephone outage on the outskirts of Mexicali, Baja California, but glad crews got it back on. I was able to reach my family over there as they also had more damage than we have here.

Literally... what a way to end the year!  :thrilled:

Thanks everyone btw!

Glad to hear you and your family are alright, Ana.  I find earthquakes very interesting.  I have only been in one.  It was one that was reported down in southern Illinois.  It had virtually no damage here, just kind of rattled the house.  Then a couple aftershocks happened when I was at school...it as odd.

Hope you all have a GREAT New Years Eve if you celbrate it!

We had an earthquake here back in 2006 that was out in the Gulf of Mexico. It was like a 6.5 magnitude and boy did we feel it.

Here is something interesting that a friend of mine posted on facebook.

Will you say "Twenty Ten" or "Two Thousand Ten"?

For me, I can see me starting out saying Two Thousand Ten, but I think I will pretty much go with Twenty Ten

What about you?

I'm going with "Twenty Ten". Technically, the pronunciation of 2009 should be "twenty oh-nine", because years like 1909 are pronounced "nineteen-oh-nine", same goes for '10.

introducing the new weather.com (or part of it, it's still in the making-i believe)

http://preview.weather.com/

the homepage is the same, but when you type in a city name the pages have changed.

I believe you can also customize it, in your own way.

I'm confused. Other than the new place-name page (which isn't too impressive), the site hasn't changed at all. I was expecting an entire facelift. :(
