I think my speakers are going bad. Lately they've been making a buzzing noise, even when there is no sound coming from them. Plus, I think they are interfering with my monitor. I see scan lines going up the screen, and this is an LCD monitor, mind you.

Either that or your sound card is going bad. If you have another set of speakers, try connecting them and see what happens. If the buzzing stops you know its the speakers, which would obviously be the best case scenario.

These speakers are 8 years old, but I'll dig out another set of speakers just to be sure. Would it make a difference if it is onboard sound on the motherboard?

Also, whenever I turn off the speakers, the monitor turns off and then turns back on.

Edit 2: I remember I had these speakers set up on another computer a few years ago, and whenever I moved the mouse, I heard a loud buzzing sound come through the speakers.

Had that problem at work too, it was an on board card.

Maybe you should change the speakers?

It sounds like it may be the speakers then. Its a little more difficult when your dealing with onboard sound, because if that's the culprit then you either have to buy a new motherboard or a sound card.

on my other computer, whenever i use the scroll bar on the trackpad, or the scroll wheel on an external mouse, it always makes a VERY faint high pitched beep/buzz. Weird. I have major problems with interference between a set of speakers and a desk lamp.

I'm using another set of speakers right now that are not buzzing, so I'm almost positive it is the speakers.

Wow Al, glad your ok. The things that were damaged can be replaced, but you and your family can't. You gotta be very careful when your cooking. It doesn't take much to set off a fire.

i wasn't cooking...i wasn't even home.  ;) but yeah i agree, everything can be replaced expect for the people living in the house, and that you have to be careful when cooking.

i didn't really think this question I wanted to ask you guys deserved a topic of it's own, its not really all that popular i guess so i'll just post here:

have any of you guys ever seen a musical? (just a general question) if so which one?

I have only seen two, and participated in two.

I've seen You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown! & Fiddler on the Roof

as well as participated in both.

musicals coming to San Antonio is that of Avenue Q in October of 2008 and Wicked in June of 2009. (musicals I actually want to see) hahaha.

I can't wait for wicked! Currently in town is Phantom of the Opera which I've heard was simply amazing.

Saw Aida and Phantom of the Opera.

Participated in Annie, in the pit orchestra (music was the work of the devil)

Good news folks!  I'm using my laptop as I type! Hallelujah!  :worship:

The only problem I have is with the front bezel cover, when I was taking it off I cracked it on one part  :ninja:  No big deal, superglue will fix it.

That was a very risky $200, whew!
