If this is in regards to subtropical cyclone Sandy, this post may be better suited in the "Tropical Storm Sandy" topic.

Long Island, August-September 2012 tornadoes, Hurricane Sandy, Blizzard of 2013, how many places on Earth do you know can get all 3 of those events within a 6 month period?

I am about to put an ax through my TV. The number of political ads this city has been bombarded with over the past several weeks has been ridiculous - and I can't even start to imagine how bad things must be in Ohio, Florida, Colorado, and Virginia right now. I don't know about you guys, but I can't wait for the election to be over so I can actually enjoy feeling awkward watching my local car salesman's commercials again.

Me too. Even though I don't see those ads meant for swing states, I still have to endure constant political ads from local Congressmen, and they've really been getting on my nerves lately. At least I can avoid them on cable and on the Spanish networks!

I feel all the money spent on advertising should instead be going to support our country.  Many of the ads aren't even by the candidates themselves.  People have already decided on who will get their vote, and the debates are a far more useful tool than these ads.  Only a few states get targeted as the others are simply untouched, and I don't feel it's fair that the votes in a few states will count way more than those in other states.

If I had any control on how our election works, I would propose a drastic change:  Only the popular vote would decide the winner of all races.  I'd have the polls open during daylight hours from Election Day on Tuesday all the way to the following Sunday, but you can still only vote once.  There would be no excuse for not showing up at the polls in my idea.  Then, all the votes would be tallied in the following week, and the results would be announced when it's final.  Everyone's vote would actually count, and voter turnout would be significantly higher.  I'd argue it's well worth the extra time and effort proposed in my system given how important these elections are in our country.

That's really a great idea!  I think this system could also give third-party candidates a greater chance of getting votes, since they don't really get many electoral votes nowadays, if any at all.

Romney must feel pretty darn good about GA because I've only seen Pro Obama ads here since the campaign, unfortunately Romney will win us. This state hasn't been blue since Clinton.

Also it feels good to have phone/internet service again!

I think there are problems with both the electoral college process and the popular vote process, but I do think overall our elections should be handled differently. I find it amusing that the Republicans are almost guaranteed 24 states, and the Democrats only 17, yet the Democrats have a significant lead in the EC because of powerhouses like California, New York, and Pennsylvania. The only real big player Republicans have is...well, Texas and sometimes Florida.

Ohio is going to be fierce, though. If any one state is going to decide this election, it's going to be Ohio.

Hate to abruptly break the topic…

Last week, Univision revealed its new logo, which will debut on-air in 2013. Now that I've seen it, I think it's ugly and I hate it. It just looks childish IMHO.

That looks like making something bubbly-3D just for the sake of making something bubbly-3D.  I don't like it.

Thank you! That was exactly what I was thinking. But who knows, it might grow on me.

To compare, here's the current logo.

I like it. I wish NBC would do the same with their logo...it's just so flat. It looks so much cooler when it's 3D.

It is 3D, and has been for a year. ;)
