I'm considering taking one summer class this year since I only take 3 at a time during the fall and spring (since I also work part time). Haven't decided yet.

Well, I am headed back to university tomorrow as I have classes in the afternoon. I'm concerned that the poor weather will hamper the 2 hour drive up to New Brunswick. But, I don't know if I can start doing work again because I feel like I can't memorize or remember things anymore since finals were over lol.

I'm also concerned about after spring semester, in regards to what to do over the summer break. For you guys in or have attended college, during the summer do you take summer courses, work, intern or volunteer in your field of interest or do some combo of these?
I didn't take any summer courses, but I volunteered for two summers at the NWS in Blacksburg, VA and did an internship during a third summer at HPC in Silver Spring, MD.  I would strongly urge you to find some opportunities that fit within your planned major so that you have a foot in the door when you graduate and start applying for full-time jobs.
That sounds logical. Well, I cannot do any summer research/internships until next summer or junior year (when I'll look for some) as I have not completed my main math and science courses yet, but I was thinking about maybe working part-time as a Pharm Tech and taking a science class at the local CC. Volunteering also sounds like a good option, but it will be difficult for me to afford next year's tuition if I do not earn some income, so I figured having a job in a related field can't hurt.

But regardless of major, if you work in a field that doesn't exactly pertain to your major and you write this information down in your application to professional/graduate school or on a resume, would that hurt your chances in any way?

Well, first off, what is your major? For the resume, any addition employment is good to see, as it shows you have job experience. As for graduate school, I think they're more worried about your academic grades more than your job. I can't answer this for sure, though.
Biological Sciences. I am planning to go to medical school. If that fails, then pharmacy school. I was wanting to get some work experience so I can boost my application for these competitive places. I have my heart set on Jefferson School of Medicine/Pharmacy...their facilites are AMAZING, and I can instantly get a job after completing my studies at that school because their teaching hospital is in Delaware, a place where I know many physicians and students at. They also wrote my letter of recommendations so it would be really neat to attend Jefferson, even though it's very tough to get in.

I was looking through radar and temps this morning on simuawips. This image was quite interesting. The layer in the back ground is temps.

I have no idea what's going on. It's snowing in the city, raining here, but what's strange is that the NWS never said it was going to be this windy tonight. From what I'm witnessing, we are already getting gusts over 45mph I think these are microbursts because these winds are totally unexpected.

EDIT: I've figured out what's happening. We are getting a wind from the south right now off the ocean. There's a cold pocket of area above us from the cold air we had today. Since the cold air is more dense, the cold air dives down from the rest of the troposphere, add that to the southernly wind and you get a microburst, and you also get mixed precip which is what we are getting right now. First time it has snowed here since October. :)

Long Island, August-September 2012 tornadoes, Hurricane Sandy, Blizzard of 2013, how many places on Earth do you know can get all 3 of those events within a 6 month period?

Looks like the Grand Forks and Bismarck offices are going to be the first to use the new "Extreme Cold Watch" and "Extreme Cold Warning" implimented by NWS. A watch is currently out for Wednesday in Grand Forks. The expected low that evening is -18, and the wind chill as -40. "Frostbite can occur within minutes." Not a good day to be outside there.

Sigh...welcome to North Dakota.

I was wondering when they were going to start using them. It's not a bad idea, a good alternate option to the windchill warning/advisory.

EDIT: Made a graphic representation of what happened last night since I worded it poorly. Yes this is MS Paint...

Ugh, I can't wait for Saturday to roll around and be done with. God knows how many phone calls I've gotten from "Mitt Romney" and "Newt Gingrich" over the last few days. I already know who I'm voting for in the damn primary, so stop calling me!  :censored:

Call me paranoid for doing this, but I plan to partake in tomorrow's SOPA blackout with my website. If you want to see a preview, see this http://zach.dyndns-work.com:53205/sopa/

To ensure my sig stays online here, I'm gonna copy that directory over to the /sopa/ directory since I plan going into my host settings and changing that to the default directory.
I've gone off on a journey to be a moderator at another forum, but this place will forever remain home for me~

I also hate it how the numbers are also private, so I have no way to call them back.

If I had the numbers, I would prank call them with Judge Judy. I haven't been getting any calls but I'd love to prank them.

Well, as we've reached midnight on January 18, 2012, some sites have been blacked out (as Zach has mentioned above) to protest the SOPA.  Wikipedia is among one of many sites participating in this protest, so don't count on it for any last-minute reports today! :P

What does everything think about the protest and act in general?

The Weather Center is shut down in protest as well. I'm no fan of the bill, but I understand both sides of the coin.

The TWC Today site is down for the day in protest, with the forums going down from 8pm-midnight.

I have skywarnal.com blacked out, but the main page is still accessible to those who need it at mainpage.skywarnal.com.
