Sounds like a stupid way to discipline the kids and for teachers to abuse their power. One thing I hate about school is teachers abusing their power and being just plain stupid. I'm not saying all teachers are stupid, some teachers are really good.. I've had a bunch of amazing teacher. But I have had some pretty dumb teachers in my past as well who just loved flexing their power for no reason and writing students up for stupid reasons and giving them referrals.. Those kinds of teachers shouldn't even have the right to have their job.  <_<

That was my last school where I would get written up for talking w/o permission but yet the weak could be slammed into doors and kicked like trash by the class bully and he doesn't get jack.

Demerit Levels at my school:

1-6 Demerits: No Penalty
6-12 Demerits: D-Hall (detention)
12-24 Demerits: Saturday D-Hall with Student/Principal Conference
24-36 Demerits: Parent/Principal Conference
36-48 Demerits: In-School Suspension
48+ Demerits: TBD by Principal

It's basically a lessee of a write-up...but, at my school you can get up to 13 of them at a time. 6 of your demerits get wiped away at the end of the 9 weeks.

5 demerits/1wk = detention
10 demerits/1wk = 2 detentions
15 demerits/9wk = Saturday detention (and you pay the teacher $20)
20+ demerits = suspension/expulsion

ALL demerits are wiped at the end of the 9wks.

Thankfully, I've only had one detention and an "after-school assignment," which did not classify as a true detention because I did not have the demerits for it. I got the detention for telling someone to kiss my  :censored:.

During my high school days, demerits didn't even exist.  The only things that teachers computed were your grades, absences, and tardies.  I get the feeling that the old-fashioned way of education is winning here, especially with discipline. :hmm:

You get kicked out if you miss the detention or don't pay up... so yeah. :facepalm: School sucks.
