My name was used back in 2002 or 2003... I am not sure if it was retired or not..because i know it was VERY long lasting..and ended up making landfall in NC (my home state ironically)

Yes, there was a Hurricane Kyle in 2002. It was a category one, and it caused one fatality and $5 million in damage. Having a life span of 23 days (September 20 to October 12), Kyle was the fourth longest lasting tropical system. The name was not retired, however, and will be used again next year's hurricane season.

There was also a Tropical Storm Kyle in 1996, but it caused minimal damage.

In the 2003 hurricane season, both of my parents first names were on that list (although my dad's name was the only one that formed), and in the '04 one, my sister's name was on that list, and it actually became a Cat 1 hurricane, but never made landfall.

I don't recall ever seeing the name of anyone in my family on the list. My father and I are both Gary, my mother is Joyce, and I have two brothers, Adam and Nick (or Nicholas). Never do I recall seeing any of those names.
