Click "Open with" and then click Browse, and browse to Windows Media Player, then once you do that, click the "Do this for files like this from now on" checkbox, and then click OK.

Tried it.  Does nothing.  The box doesn't light up so I can't check it

EDIT:  Works for .mov files, but not wmv

Update on the internet situation:  we unplugged ALL of the telephones from the phone jack and the internet has been doing fine for about an hour. Hopefully this solution will work until the cable guy comes to set the Cable up on Tuesday.

I guarantee it will continue to work. What's strange though, is that I have my modem and router set up in my living room, and my cordless telephone only sits about 5 or 6 feet away, yet I haven't experienced any disconnection problems (certainly not on the scale of what you went through).

Of course, they have different types of cordless phones, and different types may cause different amounts and types of interference. Some operate on the 900mhz band, some operate at 1Ghz or more, and then there's those spectrum spread telephones. So I guess it could all depend on exactly what kind of cordless phones you have.

We have a cordless phone in the living room, and a corded phone in my parents room. We've unplugged them and now the internet connection has been working fine for about an hour now. :D

We have a 5.7 GHz cordless phone that's less then three feet from our wireless router, and we've never had any connection problems whatsoever. Same case with our old 900 MHz cordless phone...

Just curious, what make/model wireless router do you have? Because there's a high chance that the router is also operating at 2.4 GHz.

The modem is a Westell Versalink Model 327W. It's a modem/router combination, in the sense that it connects to the DSL service, and then routes the connection to all the computers.

At my dad's house, I have both a wireless phone and router (both at 2.4 GHz) running not even two or three feet from each other. I have had no major problems with either. Then we have another wireless phone that is 5.8 GHz.

I know you can do this for Linksys routers, but in your router's configuration page (if it has one), you may be able to change the frequency that the router operates at.
