I remember it too.  However, Gil didn't say it, I think somebody else said it and noone corrected it.

I can attest, this entire area is not rural at all.

No, Gil said it to me. He and I were talking on this very subject, and he said that he lived in a fairly rural area in which he did not have to share his connection with many other people. So somewhere along the line he's lying, be it now or then.
