Yeah you have a Static IP (as do most DSL customers-hey Gil, there's a downfall to cable!).

Actually with AT&T you have to pay extra per month for a static IP (about the same price as dynamic cable (what Gil has)).  It's like $40 somethin.

Well, mine says dv6000 as well, but I think that is just the general family

Speaking of HD space, my main partition size is 32.1 GB, but I only have 3.26 GB free (no, that's NOT a typo)! I'm a real pack rat, I really need to clean up my HD. :P

hey Gil, there's a downfall to cable
You CAN get static IPs with cable. I like dynamic because if i get banned, just change my IP, and im no longer banned :D

That won't happen here!

Dan, I did say most.

Gil, wiring (exterior) is standard. Location is also a heavily affecting factor with cable (very heavily in some cases).

Location is the biggest factor. it affects DSL more than it affects Cable.

It would be a lie to say that. Since you SHARE your connection with OTHERS with cable internet location is often MUCH more crucial. For SSS, it is likely to be direly crucial, since most area's in Florida are fairly densley populated.

you share everything, no matter what connection method you use. It all goes to the same place.

Not true. With DSL everyone has their own connection at the phone company's CO.

yes, but cable itself is much faster, so sharing connection doesnt really matter. especially for me since there arent many people
on my "connection terminal" so to speak. :)

When I had Cable in the past, the speed was pretty fast, so while there may have been lots of other users using the connection, I didn't notice any speed issues with it.

You won't notice a large decrease all the time. The worst time for using cable internet is during peak usage hours (generally weekday evenings). You WILL notice a decline in speed during those hours.

Well, Im not seeing a speed change. And I'll monitor it all evening too.. I never see a noticable change of speed, no matter what time it is.

Gil, we've already established that you live in a sparsley populated area, so it makes no difference what you think.
