This is just too strange. I get home from work today and to my surprise my computer is off. I didn't shut it down or anything when I left from my lunch break. The very strange thing is that the LEDs on the keyboard were lit and my external hard drive was on and was making a beeping sound.

I turn the computer back on, and get the "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shut down" message, and I log back in. I checked the Event Viewer right away and nothing out of the ordinary was recorded. I wonder what the heck happened? 

Power outage? Power surge? Sounds like two possible explanations to me. That's very strange though.

The very first thing I thought of was a power outage, but everything else seems fine, like all my clocks, etc.

EDIT: Confirmed. It was indeed a power outage. My sister said it went out for like two seconds and she had to reset her alarm clock.

Hehe, I had a feeling that's what it was. I'm quite familiar with the 2-second power outage. They happen regularly around here. Makes me glad I'm moving in 2 weeks.

I currently live in Dundalk, MD, and will be moving to Middle River, MD. I lived in Middle River for 13 years (most of my childhood), so I'm happy to be moving back there.

I just came across a transformer down the street that had a "Garden State Cable" label on it. IIRC, this was the cable company that served South Jersey until Lenfest, the company that owned Garden State (and my cable company at the time, Suburban Cable), was acquired by Comcast in late 1999. Odd how that old label is still intact on the transformer after more than eight years since the acquisition.
