Then what would be the point of even having it, if they're not going to use it for it's intended purpose? :whistling:

Do I look like an employee of the cable company?

Well, you sure seemed insistant that they even had the thing, so a SLIGHT possibility that you knew didn't seem too far off base. <_<

Ok lugnut, let's review.

Here's what you said:

I DO recall seeing a test about a month ago during the afternoon, but I have not seen it used for such emergencies since about 2004.

So, if they've tested the damn thing, they have it, right? So they have the damn thing, right?

For this argument, it makes all the difference in the world. We started this because you swore up and down they DIDN'T EVEN HAVE ONE.  Then you admitted they did.

That part of the argument is over. You sealed the deal, not me. I'll now allow you some time to get your foot out from your esaphogus.  :footinmouth:

As for how its used, I would have to work for the cable company to know why they do as they do. I'm sure a call or e-mail would answer your question.

Around here I've noticed that Comcast doesn't activate the EAS system for severe weather. Even back in April when we were under Tornado Warning it wasn't activated.

Last weekend when the severe weather came through here is the first time I can recall seeing an EAS screen for a tornado warning.

Then again, there were actual tornadoes and funnel clouds sighted, so maybe they did it due to the urgency of the situation. Who knows.  :P

Comcast only breaks in for severe weather here once in awhile. They used to do it all the time here pre-2005ish.

Comcast all of a sudden early last year began using EAS for EVERY weather alert. Winter Wx Advisories, Severe Tstm Warnings, etc. There was an uproar, to say the least. People called news stations, they did reports on it; people wrote to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Pittsburgh Tribune Review, they talked about it, etc. People even left messages for the Pittsburgh NWS office, prompting them to release a statement online and on NOAA Weather Radio stating those messages were directly from Comcast, not them. Yet, it took Comcast MONTHS to get rid of them. It was then changed back to normal, only Tornado Warnings are shown (weather-wise).

The biggest problem was, they would show too many counties, even on smaller headends. For example, at the Penn Hills headend, we'd see warnings for counties 60-70 miles away (Greene, Fayette), which are totally unnecessary, seeing as how our headend served ONE county. Mother :censored: s, always trying to find a way to upset customers.  :furious:

I think its great that they want to show EAS alerts, but I think they should definitley keep it relevant, not showing counties that many miles away. And I do think it should also only be used for major weather-like tornados. Personally, I don't find anything else, weatherwise, to be an emergency.

Warnings here just are for Flash Flood, Severe T'Storm, and Tornado.  I can live with that.

This absolute garbage is what spurred me to start the Comcast Sucks thread over at TWCC a while ago.

That's it?
