For some reason, today is National Doughnut Day as it's the first Friday of June.  You might be able to get free doughnuts if you visit certain places.  It started out as a simple observance from the Salvation Army for a good cause, but now it really doesn't mean so much.  I'm with all of you in feeling that there are too many observances lately for things.

Had the first oppertunity to close last night at 11pm last night with the Carts and it took about 2 and a half hours by myself to collect all of them and put them in the garage and outside the store. i don't have to close again until Tuesday June 18th from 3pm to 11pm.

Well, I'll be going on my first flight tomorrow. I'm going from Memphis to Greensboro, NC and connecting in Atlanta. I'm coming back Friday. I've been wanting to fly for a while now and I'm really looking forward to it.

There's one thing I dislike about summer, mosquitoes! Those little buggers are annoying and constantly bite me, and I've already been bitten twice  :pinch:  The problem is that I live near a wooded area, plus the weather is constantly rainy where I live which leaves standing water everywhere for the bugs to breed. To make a long story short, I'm really not looking forward to mosquito season at all

Here's a great example of a channel being SD Fail Safe...

This is the HD feed (ch. 813) from myatltv (sister station to our NBC affiliate; formerly theWB) looks perfectly fine right?

The problem lies on the SD feed which is ch. 13. It's been cropped or stretched, either way done terribly.

THIS is the reason I hate watching channels that are available in HD in SD, you get crap like this. Couldn't they had just letterboxed it instead? :dunno:

Tavores, it's supposed to be letterboxed, so I have no idea why they are even doing that. WTSP letterboxes their newscasts for SD, and in fact, they were letterboxing on SD even under the previous Gannett package

The HD transition is already been a mess for years now. It looks like your local NBC affiliate no longer supports 4:3-safe crop-friendly graphics. I always hate it when networks that are broadcasting in HD drops their 4:3-safe crop-friendly graphics and goes completely full-blown 16:9 widescreen. CNN, HLN, Fox News, ESPN, and Fox Sports doesn't even support 4:3 safe graphics anymore. That really annoys me when it comes to backwards-compatibility on older analog 4:3 SD only TVs. I wish FCC would made a requirement for all broadcasters to provide 4:3-safe backwards compatibility.

Well on the actual NBC channel in SD it is letterboxed. (as it always has been)

I hate to say it, but it's gotta be laziness on their part not to be letterboxing their sister channel in the same way.

Summer officially starts in 10 days at 1:04 AM EDT on June 21.  How is everyone doing to start their summer breaks or plans for a vacation later?  I sure can't wait to get a break from work in five days.

If anyone is interested in watching, I made a very cool radar timelapse featuring Tropical Storm Andrea! :)

Wow, this porch is starting to heat up.  It's so bright out.  B)

How is everyone doing to start their summer breaks or plans for a vacation later?

I'm planning on staying in the air conditioning most of the time, except maybe at night when the sun's not baking everything.  I've already had a vacation this year, so that's out.

I have my annual birthday vacation in two weeks.  I plan on staying in bed and reading my Kindle.

I see someone likes the orange font. :P  Yeah, I could make out Andrea quite well toward the end.  How did you get that much radar data into one continuous loop?

Those are nice pictures.  I have seen a few double rainbows, but I think the sun dogs I saw a couple weeks ago top that feat.  The atmosphere and sunlight together can make some amazing things. B)
