I almost considered University of Oklahoma, but the fact that they're aviation program was severely lacking, their size, and the tuition scared me away. I'm extremely jealous, though. I am studying meteorology at the University of Oklahoma and am, so far, very excited about it. For those of you who may not know, The National Weather Center is located on the campus, and it is both school-operated and government-operated. Therefore, because of the location of The National Weather Center on campus, this university has a very good meteorology and research department. In addition, from looking at and hearing about past weather events, Norman gets all kinds of weather: tornadoes in the spring (something they specialize in), excessive heat in the summer, and winter storms in the winter.

That sounds very exciting, and the perfect place to study meteorology!  Best of luck!

When I was in middle school meteorology was the field I wanted to study in, but high school quickly did a 180 on that.  I still love math and science, but they hated me.

That's the story of my life, too! 

Except that my feelings about math are exactly the same as its feelings about me.

The Tampa Bay area has really been making terrible decisions with its radio stations.  First, its smooth jazz station (WSJT) turned into some pop station last year, and now, WTMP, which as been an adult urban comptemporary with a legacy for 57 years in the community suddenly is now off and turned into a Spanish station.

There's not a single classical music radio station in the Orlando/Daytona Beach market.  Even worse, there's only one NPR station, and it barely, just barely, gets picked up in Daytona Beach. 

At least digital cable offers two classical music stations on Music Choice.

In fact, this market went from 2 PBS stations to just 1, and that last 1 announced it was leaving PBS this summer.  If it weren't for a last-minute deal with a local college's non-commercial station to pick up PBS, the Orlando/Daytona Beach market would have been the largest market in the country without PBS!  I'm sure the cable company would have started carrying a more distant PBS station... maybe... if that would have happened.

Is 92.5 FM not enough for the area in terms of radio Latino or radio en español? I miss WSJT smooth jazz

I wonder what the proportion of English to Spanish radio stations is in, say, Miami.

It's Labor Day weekend! What are your plans for the weekend? Short trips to the beach, heading out to visit relatives?

I'm heading to Canada on Sunday to visit Winnipeg, Manitoba, with a couple of my suite mates. I've heard stories about the border crossing, especially about the Americans being real pricks when you try to get back into the United States.

Yes, it used to be true, but things were much simpler years ago as there was no need for extra security.

While we are on the subject of college, I am going to take the time to be a little more "open" about myself. I don't want this to be extremely awkward, but I realize that I have never revealed my age or "level" in education. There is no good reason for this, but since I have reached a new stage in my life, I would like to share it with you all.

I just started college this year. I am studying meteorology at the University of Oklahoma and am, so far, very excited about it. For those of you who may not know, The National Weather Center is located on the campus, and it is both school-operated and government-operated. I believe Patrick visited there sometime earlier this year, if I remember correctly. Therefore, because of the location of The National Weather Center on campus, this university has a very good meteorology and research department. I, too, would like to wish the best of luck for those of you who are also in their first year of college.

Whoa, I may actually see you next year! I'm strongly considering the thought of changing my degree to meteorology and transferring to Oklahoma because it seems to be the most intriguing study to me these past couple of years. While we're still a little tight on money, we've been saving for a while to make this change for me--that is, if I still feel the same about it in a few months.

How are all you people settling into dorms if you're living on campus? To be honest, I've never lived in a dorm, but that is going to change next year if I go to college out of state.

Sorry I haven't posted too much. College starts for me tomorrow after the university was closed for several days due to Irene. My house and yard sustained quite a bit of damage and internet was just restored. Most of my time has been busy cleaning up. It is quite a mess. Hope everyone is doing well. I am reading most of the posts just haven't responded

Hope the damage wasn't too bad, Martin.  Your area and the Outer Banks certainly took the worst of Irene.

Lots of cleaning and lots of calls to contractors/electricians/plumbers/etc. Hatteras actually is cut off still as the road washed out. I believe by now they have a temporary ferry system setup but with limited resources and a 3 1/2hr trip it's just a mess.

Congratulations! I know you will find college a lot of fun. You have the personality and dedication to excel in anything you put your mind to and I have the highest confidence you will succeed! Good luck I actually thought you were slightly older!

Whille everyone else is beginning or going back to college, I am entering the eighth grade Tuesday. Going to be a lot of algebra, some grammar/spelling/literature, American History (yay!), and science. I love school, but I don't love the homework.

For the first six grades, I went to public school... last year and years on I will be in Private school studying under the A Beka Curriculum.
