Summer vacations now aren't what they used to be years ago.  It used to be from Memorial Day to Labor Day, but no one will be seeing it again.  Although once you get a job, you don't get any long breaks, so enjoy it while you can.

I return on August 24th.

And to change the subject, my dad finally ordered FiOS internet, the person he talked to is supervised by my dad's former supervisor, and for $56, my parents can get 25 down and 25 up as an employee discount! :thrilled:
I've gone off on a journey to be a moderator at another forum, but this place will forever remain home for me~

lol.. By the time my kids will be in school when I have them and they're old enough, there probably won't be any summer break at all seeing how slowly our summer vacations are getting shorter and shorter every year it seems like.

Actually public school hours usually don't increase. My school system has a required 180 days. Some budget hurting areas are opting for longer school days and less actual days in school. Saves money on food and gas.

All my governor is doing is laying off teachers, which is terrible, because even special ed class sizes will be increasing now and less courses will be offered. Plus fees will be charged for extra-curricular activities. I hate Chris Christie because not only he's FAT, but he's CARELESS! <_< Bring back Corzine!
Sadly the special ed classes are actually a major hindrance for my school system. There are too many of them and rather than reduce those amounts and cut excess positions, critical core teachers are being cut. In fact there are more special ed teachers then math and english teachers at my previous high school. Its ridiculous.

More special ed teachers are needed as the population with special needs is increasing.

This is correct. My old high school only had one for a couple of years, when I gradated. There used to be two, until my old Study Skills/Special Ed teacher had to becomes the Special Needs counselor as the original one had a mental breakdown or something from her son's death... I don't remember the whole story, tbh. They're cutting special ed programs, and I didn't have a Study Skills class, which I needed, so my English grades struggled/declined because of it.

I think a lot of people have underestimated the need for special education.  Colleges do a far better job assisting those who need it over high schools, but it's only because they have enough resources and money to do it.  I doubt that high schools will be able to keep up the pace. :hmm:

This has been a growing problem in my area and part of it is under investigation. State seems to be finding fraud and people abusing the money. While its important to maintain as many positions as possible, including special ed,  special ed deserves to have cuts just as much as regular positions. It should be equal.

Does anyone know of a place where I can view archived weather alerts? I saw there was a tornado warning in my area but it expired and I can't view it anymore, and I wanted to see what it was for, etc.

When was this warning?  If it's less than 24 hours old, I can show you a site very quickly.  If not, then it gets pretty difficult as you have to request it from a data server with your email address.
