So I'm in a bit of a dilemma now. I want to stream my Weatherscan XL Emulator and host my videos to a server so badly, but my parents won't open the ports on our router because they say my neighbor who has a Bachelor's in computer science told them that port fowarding is very dangerous. Not that I believe it, but they say that hackers can get into the router, control the host computer, and take their bank account info.

Your neighbor is right. Opening common ports on your router is very risky, unless you know what you're doing. In fact, I'm surprised that your ISP would allow such a thing (unless you have a business account or something).

Nope, they actually recently NAT-blocked me for streaming music with my WeatherScan XL Emulator in Windows Media Encoder.

I hope to be getting Verizon FiOS soon, in which my parents are likely going to leave the internet on so the IP doesn't change.

Most ISPs including FIOS block common ports like 80 and 25. As Matt said they don't allow it because it poses a slight higher risk than other ports. I still wouldnt call the risk that bad.

No problem. They only block those certain ports. Others should be just fine.

I just looked it up and found that it was launched on September 1, 1988.

Great... the earthquake fears are back up again. we had a 5.1 (downgraded to a 4.5) last night, and we just had another one now, a 4.1. Seismologists say these are aftershocks from the 7.2 Easter Sunday earthquake.

Since you had such a major earthquake (7.0+ magnitude), these aftershocks could last for months.
