I think Stephen has been listening to Gil too much. The speed's that Gil supposedly gets are VERY unusual. An average cable internet connection runs at about the same speed as DSL-somewhere between 2-6mbps, depending upon how many other people on your connection are also using the internet.

Also, another interesting (but I bet unknown) fact is that cable TV use also takes away from your speed. So, if there are 15 other families on your connection, and all 15 are watching T.V. and 6 are using the internet...well, you can probably see where I'm going with this.

But anyway, Stephen said he's used cable internet before and was satisfied, so I'm sure he'll be satisfied now too.

Lets hope considering the problems hes having now.. I heard that Road Runner has speeds of up to 7mbps.. I saw that on a few billboards in Watertown last week, is Roadrunner DSL or Cable?

Roadrunner (owned by Time Warner Cable) is a cable internet service. Consequently, DSL service is capable of acheiving the same speeds as those you saw advertised by Roadrunner.

Of course, I'm not listening to Gil too much. ;) And yeah, like I said, before with Cable internet I had no problems, and the speed was excellent, so I'm sure that's going to happen this time, too.

I'm interested in seeing how much of a difference in speed there really is. When you get up and running with the cable, let us know just how much faster it really is.

Here's the speeds for my DSL:

What I'll do is once I get Cable, I'll run that test again, and compare. :)

That's weird, especially since you're closer to the server than I am.

Here's mine on Comcast cable:

Download speed is great, but Comcast never seemed to be very good with the upload speeds.

(This one was my recomended server:)

(This one is the one on the other side of the country)

Yikes! I'm only on 2 mbps right now, I'm calling my ISP tomorrow (Primus) to get a new "Tripple Play" bundle that will up me to 5 mbps.

Oddly enough my fastest test was from here to Atlanta..

OK, our cable service is now hooked up. Here's the speed test:

So essentially I have double the download speed with cable. :D

The lady that came by to install it was very nice, and helpful. We got everything installed in about an hour. We have a Scientific Atlanta cable modem, and we have a Linksys wireless router connected to it, so we've got wireless connectivity too. Overall, everything is running smoothly now.

Glad everything is up and running Stephen! Hopefully you won't have all the trouble you had with the DSL.  8)
